About The Band

“The 225 Big Band” is an educational organization dedicated to the exploration of jazz - from classic swing and big band to Broadway show tunes and Rock & Roll. Its membership is open to students, alumni, faculty and friends of the Pasadena ISD and is a project of the PISD Fine Arts Department. The band performs at local civic events as well as community dances and school district functions. Formed at the request of several students, the band has grown rapidly and continues to be 100% voluntary.

The band offers its members a chance to perform publicly as entertainers beyond the typical school music setting – a rare and unique opportunity for young musicians. They’ve been called the most professional amateurs around!

From company picnics to private parties “The 225 Big Band” can add life to any gathering or public event. Since its inception in the spring of 2000, “the 225 Big Band” has performed many engagements at local retirement centers, The Houston Yacht Club, American Legion halls, as well as the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

The group is proud to have served as the opening act for world-renowned touring ensembles such as The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and The Glenn Miller Orchestra.

“The 225 Big Band” performs for a standard minimum donation of $150.00 per hour. All donations are greatly appreciated and benefit the continuation of jazz education including sheet music, equipment, repairs and other operating expenses.

“The 225 Big Band” is a totally self-supported, non-profit organization.

An experience like no other…
